Pastor Jason Albelo

Senior Pastor

Bio: Jason has attended East Hill for most of his life and has been on staff since 2000. Jason and his wife, Nikki, have 2 children: daughter Ashley and son Jarrett.

Jason Albelo has a deep passion for East Hill’s healing ministry, a ministry he personally experienced as a young man. Jason said he was part of the party scene during his initial year away at school and ultimately became a sex addict. Having grown up in a Christian household and in East Hill Church, Jason knew of God and had heard words spoken over his life. But at this time in his life, he said he had practically turned his back on his savior—until God got his attention.

One night after heavy partying, Jason recalled God calling him to the window and asking, “Son, what do you see?” Jason responded, “I see a sidewalk.” God asked, “Where does the sidewalk go?” Jason responded, “Nowhere—it doesn’t go anywhere.” He recalled the Lord then saying to him, “That sidewalk is you, your life. If you continue on that path, you are going to come to an end.”

At that point, God started to be on Jason’s mind a little more. Soon after, Jason learned that he had contracted an incurable sexually transmitted disease. That weekend he made the difficult yet crucial decision to get out of an impure relationship and went home and confessed to his parents about his lifestyle. He promptly became part of East Hill’s For Men Only ministry.

From that turning point, God helped Jason begin to “untangle the addictive web” he’d been in since he was 12 years old. And it was only then, when God was freed to start a lifelong transformation process, that the woman he’d been dreaming of since fifth grade started showing interest. That woman was Nikki Roberts, daughter of outgoing Senior Pastor Ted Roberts, who would later become his wife. The couple married on August 25, 1995.

After leaving Oregon State University with a degree in political science, Jason joined the U.S. Marine Corps, working as a tank commander, an executive officer, a general’s aide and co-commander. During his time living and working in Twentynine Palms, Calif., Jason and Nikki got deeply involved in ministry. Jason began speaking on a monthly basis and he and Nikki led worship for a “cutting edge, Gen-Xer” chapel service on the base. At the same time Jason was being mentored by Ted Roberts.

Soon Jason and Nikki reached a crossroads with ministry and career choices. Jason was on the cusp of attaining the career he had always wanted: being a fighter pilot. But after attending a conference at Life Bible College, God spoke to Jason: “You can go and be a pilot—and yeah, I’ll bless it, and you’ll be a good one—but it won’t fulfill you. If you come with me, you’ll soar on heights you’ve never known before.”

Jason then made the hardest decision of his life and turned down what was seemingly the opportunity of a lifetime.

By 2000, Jason was back in Gresham, serving as the college pastor for East Hill. He then went on to become a worship leader, speaker, service producer, creative arts coordinator and an associate pastor before Ted placed him in the role of executive pastor. Jason took the baton of senior pastor leadership of East Hill in the summer of 2007. Jason believes the best days for his family, East Hill and the kingdom of God are ahead, and he’s forever grateful to be lavished with such grace and responsibility from his Heavenly Father.
